The granny square is something special to me because my mother taught me how to make one as the first thing I ever learned how to crochet. That one square led to several more and eventually turned into a scarf that I gave as a gift. I don’t have any pictures of that but if you go to my Ravelry page or see my Instagram page, you can see a lot of different things I’ve created.

Free Pattern Friday is still going on. It’s a lot of fun, I enjoy sharing with everyone, and I’m going to make these as beginner friendly and easy to understand as possible. And please feel free to contact me, either in comments or email, if you have any questions or concerns.

This is a pattern that is pretty simple. And only a few different supplies. I use American terms. The pattern here is completely free. Here is some shameless self promotion for my Etsy shop! There are more crochet patterns there, as well as some other items.

The great thing about the granny square is it can be used to make a great many things. Scarves, blankets, hats, and more!

🐨Done with the granny square here❤️

The granny square is great because you can use them kind of like building blocks. You can make several in a row and it will make a scarf. You can also make blankets and clothes. But don’t feel bad if you have trouble with granny squares. There are people who crochet beautiful items for years before attempting this.

Here is more shameless self promotion for my Etsy shop! There are more crochet patterns there, as well, if you’re so inclined.
